Pilots
Help United Way Give Back to the Community
To cap off the giving season, the United Way has made a special
request for the Crescent Pilots, as well as other members
of the Maritime community, to participate in this years
annual giving drive. To lead the way for individual pilot
donations, the Crescent Pilots Board of Directors has
agreed to make a corporate contribution of $10,000. They then
sent out packets to all of the pilots asking them for donations.
Chairperson Kim Sport has recognized the pilots efforts
in this campaign. Many pilots have responded at the leadership
level, which is a donation over $1,000. This is especially
important to the United Way this year because every gift at
the leadership level of $1,000 or more will receive a $1,000
match from the RosaMary Foundation.
All pledges are tax deductible and can be contributed through
payroll deduction over a twelve-month period. United Way also
allows donations to be designated to any charity, even if
its not in the United Way list.
All dollars given to the Greater New Orleans United Way are
invested locally. Last year, 700,000 people were helped by
the Greater New Orleans United Way in Orleans, Jefferson,
St. Bernard, Plaquemines, St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parishes.
The United Way funds 140 health and human service programs
provided by over 80 member and affiliated agencies. The system
is so effective, says UNOs Dr. Timothy Ryan, that it
would cost the federal government $60 million per year to
provide the same services the United Way provides for less
than $20 million per year.
Other organizations the Crescent Pilots' Association has given
to this year include the American Heart Foundation, Coast
Guard Foundation, Algiers Irish Association, Propeller Club
of New Orleans, Jefferson Dollars for Scholars, Jewish Endowment
Foundation, Little Sisters of the Poor, LA Committee on Human
Rights and WRBH Radio.
